July 4th, 1776, “Independence Day” is the day Americans celebrate our independence from Great Britain and our birth as a nation.  July 4th however, wasn’t the day that the Continental Congress decided to declare independence (they did that on July 2, 1776).  Neither was it the day the American Revolution began.  It was the natural outcome of what happened in April 1775 when the citizen militia of Massachusetts were fired upon in Concord and Lexington and fought off 700 British soldiers who were trying to destroy their arms, ammunition, and ability to defend themselves.
“The first shots were fired just after dawn in Lexington, Massachusetts the morning of April 19th, the “Shot Heard Round the World.” The colonial militia, a band of 500 men, were outnumbered and initially forced to retreat.”The American militia however, reformed and met the enemy at the North Bridge in Concord.  They were successful in forcing the British  troops south to Boston.  The American War for Independence had now begun.

It was on March 23, 1775, one month earlier at the Second Virginia Convention that Patrick Henry delivered his fiery oration, saying. . .

“Is life do dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?  Forbid it, Almighty God!  I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

After years of colonist efforts to persuade the King of England and Parliament to stop exploiting them in taxation, and overburdening governance, war was inevitable.

Those in American government, and candidates for office who would continue to force Americans to our knees with ever higher taxes, suppression of our free speech, religious liberties, and right to protect ourselves, should take note.  As the King of England and the British Parliament underestimated the colonists, so America’s elected officials and wannabee candidates for President, should be advised to learn the lessons of history.  As the colonists wanted Freedom from Tyrants abroad so do Americans want freedom from the growing number of tyrants within.

America, Declare The Freedoms of our Forefathers once again, but this time, fight the war at the ballot box, from the pulpits, and pews, not in the streets with bullies, bullets or bombs.
